"Campaigning for Lincoln" is the only one of the three offered programs that keeps "Miss Wendel" in character throughout, speaking and thinking as if the year were really 1864.  This program is especially popular for dinner meetings, luncheons, and adult groups.  This program can accommodate groups of more than 100.

"Rally round the flag, Boys!"

The shout rang from the war torn battlefields of the American Civil War & echoed through the meetings halls of the North where, in 1864, the nation drew closer to the presidential election.  Incumbent President Abraham Lincoln was by no means sure to win, in fact, he had begun private preparations for leaving his office.

Lincoln faced a former general of the Union Army on the ballot, General George B. McClellan.  The war was dragging on & on; no near settlement seemed likely & McClellan was running on a campaign of "peace."  Lincoln feared the vote would be for McClellan & "peace" rather than continuing the war until the nation was whole.

Throughout the North, supporters of Lincoln formed "Lincoln Clubs" and actively campaigned for the President's re-election.

Women did not yet have the right to vote, but they supported the election process as actively as they supported the soldiers in the field.

"Miss Wendel" will come to your group with her very vivid ideas about the political atmosphere of the election, dressed to campaign for her candidate in the height of 1864 fashion.  Her experiences caring for the wounded influenced her enough to support Lincoln.  Her speech is sure to command & hold the attention of any audience right through its conclusion when she leads the crown in the "Union Rally Song."  Miss Wendel makes a stop at the Commissary on her way to her gatherings where she obtains a sample of a traditional soldiers' food for her audiences to sample.
