GLEN CARY LUTHERAN CHURCH 15531 CENTRAL AVE., NE HAM LAKE, MN
WPA – 1937 Anoka County Cemetery Survey… In 1855 a group of St. Paul men cleared a section of land in what is now the southern part of Ham Lake Township, Anoka County, and laid out a township, including a site for a town hall and cemetery. A bill was introduced into the legislature to make it the county seat, which was defeated by a delegation from Anoka. Burials continued as there are markers bearing a date of 1861, but people moved away and the town site reverted to wild land. In 1870, the land was acquired by A. Livgard and Bergin Titterude for farm purposes. In 1874, the Glen Cary Lutheran Church was established and the cemetery became the Glen Cary Cemetery. The grounds are fenced, grass cut, and there are many fine monuments. The only name of a man with a military record is Soren Oleson, 15th Wis. Inft. Corp. B.H. Titterrud, Ham Lake, is the sexton. Records of the cemetery are: Cemetery plat, 1874-date; Ministerial book, 1874-date, 1 volume, death recordings, all in good condition and kept at residence of B.H. Titterud, Ham Lake, Anoka County. ………………Wm. McGaffey June 1936 |
